Meet Megan & Mallory

It all began with a little inspiration in 2013. A large cut flower farm in the US was posting beautiful photos of flowers that they grew right on their own farm. We thought, if they can grow and harvest cut flowers, why couldn’t we? When the timing is right, we’re going to do that someday too. The last few years the local flower farm movement has exploded and we could not be happier to be a part of it.

Hello - we’re Megan & Mallory, co-owners of Blooming Creek Flower Farm. We are also identical twins! Flowers have always been a part of our lives. Since we were little girls we can remember having an appreciation and love for all sorts of plants and blooms. It is mostly due to the fact that we were raised on a crop farm in west-central Minnesota. Our family has farmed for many generations, on both our Dad’s & Mom’s sides of the family. Tending to the land and planting seed is in our blood. We grew up helping out in the fields, tending to our Mom’s vegetable garden, and even having a section of garden of our own to harvest from. That led us to many 4-H floriculture projects, as well as being on our FFA floriculture team and competing in FFA events involving business and marketing strategy. Through all of this came even more of a desire to have an acreage each our own to raise our family’s like we had been raised.

Hi there -

I’m Megan, and I live on our main flower farm with my husband Michael. We have three kids, Nora (5), Caroline (3), & baby Reid. We bought our property in 2017, and are very fortunate to have ten acres to spread out on. Our business would not be possible without the elbow grease of Michael. He has been nicknamed the Lead Farm Maintenance Man! When he’s not working on my garden honey-do list, he is a Project Manager and Estimator with TerWisscha Construction in Willmar. When I’m not spending endless hours in the garden, you’ll find me at my daytime job as an Administrative Assistant for Dooley’s Petroleum Inc also in Willmar. I am also a Beautycounter consultant! Yes, I wear many hats!

I’m Mallory, and my husband Grant and I live just four miles east of the flower farm on an acreage of our own. We have two daughters, Jade (5) & Elise (3). When I’m not gardening, I work my full-time job from home as a Life Insurance Underwriter for Sammon’s Financial out of Sioux Falls, SD. I am also a Scentsy consultant! We grow a large vegetable garden at our place, I have many perennial flower beds, and best of all, a specialty bearded iris patch that is my coveted space. Aside from Grant’s job as a Grain Merchandiser for Glacial Plains Cooperative in Murdock, he breeds and raises purebred Hampshire show pigs. We have an additional business for selling the little belted cuties, Shakopee Creek Hampshires & Showpigs.

Twin Q & A

Megan: Peony, Dahlia, Zinnia

Mallory: Iris, Dahlia, Sunflower

What is your favorite thing about BCFF?

Megan: Getting to work with Mallory is the best part! I love bouncing ideas off each other. We truly work the best together. Also, the endless hours spent with the beautiful flowers. They bring me so much joy and satisfaction knowing what it takes to make the garden come to life.

Mallory: That I get to run the business with Megan. It doesn’t feel like work, it’s just what we love to do and we get to do it together. The pretty bouquets aren’t so bad either!

What is your favorite color combinations/style for flowers?

Megan: Shades of pinks and peaches, white, and lots of greenery in romantic bouquets

Mallory: Peaches and purples, & rich colors that go well with sunflowers for fall

What is your favorite summer drink?

Both: Does iced coffee count? Seriously a staple in our diet! Otherwise either a Moscow Mule or Summer Shandy to unwind.

What is your favorite summertime activity when not in the garden?

Both: We actually do a lot together (imagine that). We love camping, having family pool parties with our girls and husbands, spending time at the lake cabin, and attending the local county fair is always a highlight!
